I never would have thought that fly fishing could be a part of my life, let alone a passion of mine. Growing up, I always enjoyed spending time outdoors and was always curious about different activities, but fishing never caught my attention. That was until I met a slightly older man from Portland who introduced me to fly fishing.
I was in my mid-twenties, dating and having fun, but I never really thought much about fishing. However, after a brief relationship with this man from Portland, I found myself falling in love with fly fishing. It was a surreal moment for me to realize that I liked fly fishing more than I liked him.
Fly fishing is a sport that requires a lot of patience, focus, and attention to detail. At first, I was intimidated by the idea of casting a line, but after a few lessons, I was hooked (no pun intended). The peace and serenity that come from standing in a river, casting your line, and waiting for a bite is truly indescribable.
As I continued to explore this new passion of mine, I was amazed by the different types of fish that I could catch with fly fishing. From small brook trout to large rainbow trout, I was fascinated by the diversity of the species and their different habitats.
The community of fly fishermen and women was another aspect of the sport that I found appealing. Everyone I met was friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share their experiences with me. I found that fly fishing was a great way to connect with others who shared my love of the outdoors.
In conclusion, my brief relationship with the man from Portland led me to discover a new passion in my life. I am now 30 years old and can say with certainty that fly fishing is one of my favorite pastimes. I never would have thought that something so simple could bring me so much joy, but I am grateful to have found it and to be a part of such a wonderful community.
Who knows what the future holds, but one thing is for sure, fly fishing will always be a part of my life. So, the next time you find yourself on a layover near a water source or in need of a new hobby, I highly recommend giving fly fishing a try. You never know what new passions you might discover.
